 let one of them walk at x mph he walks 9 miles
the other walks at x+1 mph. he walks 12 mile
they take same time
..
time = distance / speeed
9/x = 12/x+1
9(x+1)=12x
9x+9=12x
12x-9x=9
3x=9
x=3 mph
the other 4 mph
