Question 316708: Mike and Jon leave their homes at the same time and meet somewhere in between their homes. Mike leaves and walks 2 meters per second. Jon walks 2.5 meters per second. If their homes are 20 meters apart, how far from jons house will they meet. How long did each walk?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
speed ofmike = 2m/sec
speed of jon 2.5 m/sec
..
let them meet x m from jon's place
so mike has walked 20-x m
..
time taken by mike = 20-x / 2
time taken by jon = x/2.5
..
these times are same.
20-x /2 = x / 2.5
2.5(20-x)=2x
50-2.5x=2x
50=4.5x
x=11.1 m distance from jon's place
mike walks 9.9 meters
