Question 309870: Two small planes start from the same point and fly in opposite directions. The first plane is flying
25 miles per hour slower than the second plane. In 2 hours, the planes are 470 miles apart. Find the rate of each plane
Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Think of 1 plane as stationary and the other as moving away from it
at the sum of their speeds
Let = the speed of the faster plane
= the speed of the slower plane
The sum of their speeds is
In 2 hrs:
The 1st planes flies at 105 mi/hr
The 2nd plane flies at 130 mi/hr
check:
1st plane:
mi
2nd plane:
OK
