Question 30443: The distance by highway(for car travel) between Richmond and Waterbury is 70 km, and the distance by rail(for train travel) is 60 km. A car and a train leave Richmond at the same time adn arrive in Waterbury at the same time, the car having traveled 15 km/hr faster then the train. Find the speed of the car and the speed of the train. Find the time it took for the car to reach Waterbury.
Answer by Paul(988)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the speed of the train be x
Let the speed of the car be x+15
Equation:

Cross multiply

x=90
90+15=105
105/70=1.5
Hence, the speed of the car is 105mph and it took it 1.5hours to reach to its destination and the speed of the train is 90mph.
