Question 300031: The bicyclists were 300 miles apart at 3 p.m. and were headed toward each other. If they met at 9 p.m. and one was traveling 20 miles per hour faster than the other, what was the speed of the bicyclist?
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT
300=(R+R+20)*6
300=(2R+20)*6
300=12R+120
12R=300-120
12R=180
R=180/12
R=15 MPH IS THE SPEED OF THE SLOWER RIDER.
15+20=35 MPH. IS THE SPEED OF THE FASTER RIDER.
PROOF:
300=(15+35)*6
300=50*6
300=300
