Question 29428: Hello,
I have this word problem that i could use some help on.
Jeff starts driving at 60 miles per hour from th same point that Lauren starts
driving 50 miles per hour. They drive in opposite directions and Lauren has
a half-hour head start. How long will Jeff drive before they are 300 miles
apart.
Thanks so much

Answer by Paul(988)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Half a hour = 0.5hours.
Equation:

50(x+0.5)+60x=300
50x+60x+25=300
110x=275
x=2.5

Hence, it will take 2.5hours before they are 300 milies apart; for Jeff.
Paul.
