If "your friend drives for 3.5 hours at an average speed of 60 miles per hour", then your friend has driven miles. So you need to drive more miles to complete the trip.
Now using , plug in D=240 (the amount of distance you need to cover) and t=4 (the amount of time you want to travel) to get . Divide both sides by 4 to get and reduce to get
So you need to average 60 mph.
Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance(d) equals Rate(r) times Time(t) or d=rt; r=d/t and t=d/r
In 3.5 hours your friend has driven 3.5*60=210 mi leaving 450-210=240 for you to drive If you want to reach your hotel in 4 mores hours, your rate (or average speed) must be 240/4=60mph
So 7.5 hours at an average speed of 60 mph=450 mi
