Question 27508: Russ and Janet are running in the Apple Hill Fun Run. Russ runs at 7mph. Janet runs at 5mph. If Janet starts first, with Russ starting ten minutes later, how long will it be before he catches up with her?

I know you convert 10 minutes to 1/6 of an hour and I know you minus 1/6 from something. Thank you

5(1/6+x)=7x
5x+5/6=7x
Mulitply the whole eqution by 6 to remove the fractions, and simplfy.
30x+6=42x
12x=6
x=1/2

Hence, it will take Russ 1/2hours or 30minutes to catch up to her.
