Joe ran 8mph the first third of the trip, but soon got tired and slowed to 5mph for the rest of the two miles. How long did it take him to get home?
:
From the information given we know:
he ran 8 mph for 2(1/3) = .67 mi
and 5 mph for 2(2/3) = 1.33 mi
:
Write a time equation: time = dist/speed
t = +
t = .08375+ .26667
t = .3542 hrs which is .3542(60) = 21.25 minutes
