Question 27168: When Fritz drives to work his trip takes 36 minutes, but when he takes the train it takes 20 minutes. find the distance he travels to work if the train travels an average of 48 mph faster than his driving.
Answer by Paul(988) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Car speed = x
Train's speed = x+48
0.6, 1/3 hours
0.6x=1(x+48)/3
1.8x=x+48
0.8x=48
x=60
60+48=108
0.6(60)=108/3
36=36
Hence, the distance to his work is 36miles.
