Pepper left at 9 am and arrived at 4 pm -- 7 hours. 7 hours times 60 miles per hour is 420 miles. Salt left two hours later, but arrived at the same time, so his travel time was 5 hours for the same 420 miles. 420 divided by 5 is 84 mph. Lucky he didn't get a ticket.

First you need to find out how far they had to travel.
Distance = velocity * time
You were give Dr. Pepper velocity (rate) at 60km/h. And you were also given the time he left and the time he arrived.
Dr. Pepper left at 9am and arrived at 4pm.
So it took Dr. Pepper 7 hours to get there.
For Dr. Pepper: D = V*T
notice that the hours canceled out and you are left with distance
So know we have the distance that both men had driven. Now we need to see how long H. Salt was driving.
If he left at 11am and arrived at 4pm, then he drove 5 hours.
So for H. Salt: D = V*T
Divide both sides by 5h
