Moving together at 36 + 24 = 60 mph. Time to move 300 miles at 60 mph is 5 hours.
Starting at 1 pm, met at 6 pm

The problem doesn't change if you make one car stationary and
have the other one moving towards it at their combined speeds
It must cover the 300 miles between them to meet the other car
hrs
They will meet at 6 pm

Let them meet after some time T
let one car travel x miles in time t
the other car will travel 300-x in the same time since they start at the same time
distance traveled by one car is x/36
distance traveled by other car is 300-x / 24
miles
x/36 = 300-x / 24
24x= 10800 -36x
24x+36x= 10800
60x= 10800
x= 180
x/36 = time taken by one car = 180/36= 5 hours
They meet at 6.00 pm
