I am not sure if clams would affect the speed of the boat or not, they are really quite sedentary creatures, not prone to changing anything around them
Therefore, I am going out on a limb and say at 8 mph you would travel 8 mi in 1 hr

It depends on how many clams are in the water!  

Yes, I know that was a typo. You meant "calm" not "clam"
but it was a funny typo anyway! 

Seriously though, you did not state the rate of the current
of the water.  Wasn't that given?

I don't think that's what you meant.  Read the problem again
