(i) 50 miles/ 1 hour
we convert hours to minutes with a unit conversion of 1 hour / 60 minutes. This gives us
(ii) 50 miles / 1 hour x 1 hour / 60 minutes
The hours cancel out and we get
(iii) 50 miles / 60 minutes
reducing, we get
(iv) 5 miles / 6 minutes
Now we travel for 36 minutes so we multiply (iv) and 36 to get
(v) 5 miles / 6 minutes x 36 minutes
here the minutes cancel out and we get
(vi) 180 miles / 6
which reduces to 30 miles

Hello,
Let's use the formula speed=distance divided by time. We'll let distance be represented by "x". Now we can plug in the values:
50mph=x/36 minutes (Convert 36 minutes to 3/5 hour)
50=x/(3/5) Multiply both sides by 3/5 to get:
x=30 miles
Make sense?
