Question 265887: The air speed of a plane was 132 km/h. Flying with the wind, the plane traveled twice the distance in 5 h as it traveled against the wind in 3 h. What was the wind speed?
Answer by vksarvepalli(154) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the speed of the wind be w km/h.
when flying with the wind the net speed will be (132+w) km/h
and when flying against the wind the net speed will be (132-w) km/h
now given, flying with the wind, the plane traveled twice the distance in 5 h as it traveled against the wind in 3 h.
distance traveled in 5 h flying with the wind = 5(132+w)
distance traveled in 3 h flying against the wind = 3(132-w)
so 5(132+w) = 2*3(132-w)
5*132 + 5w = 6*132 - 6w
so 11w = 132
so w=132/11
so w=12 km/h
so the wind speed is 12 km/h
