Question 256902: Hello I am needing some guidance for this problem.
The fastest plane goes 4400 km/hour. If it were to travel to the sun from earth, distance being 149.6 million km how long would this take? Convert into days and years.
I took the distance 149.6 million km and divided it by the speed 4400 km and this totaled 34,000 hours. Which I think is wrong!
This would then be 7.8 years (34,000/4,380 (hr. per year) and 2,833.4 days.
I think that this is totally wrong please let me know how to correctly figure this out. Or maybe I am smarter then I thought I was. We will see.

your technique is fine (smarter than you thought, huh...)

however, 365 days times 24 hours is 8760 hours per year (it looks like you got half of that...not sure how)

But this right!!!
:
However, aren't there 365*24 = 8760 hrs in a year (unless they stopped at night)
then
= 3.88127 yrs
3 + (.88127 * 365) = 3 yrs, 322 days

149600000/4400=34000 hours
34000 is right, your conversion to days is off.
24 hours in 1 day.
365 days in 1 year.
24(365)=8760 hours in 1 year.
34000 hours/(24 hrs/day)=1416 days.
34000 hours/(8760 hrs/day)=3 years 321 days
.

.
That's the problem with space travel, everything is so far away and even current unmanned spacecraft only travel at about 20 km/s or 72000 km/h. Even at that high speed it would take
149600000/72000= 2077 hours=87 days to reach the target.
