The equation we will use is:
d = rt
where "d" is the distance traveled, "r" is the rate (or speed) and "t" is the time.

The important things to notice in this problem are that the speed in "miles per hour" and the time is in minutes. We have to change the minutes to hours or change the speed to miles per minute. (Either way you'll get the same answer.

Changing the minutes to hours. 20 minutes is 1/3 for an hour. The equation is now:
d = 60(1/3) = 20 miles

Changing the speed to miles per minute. Since there are 60 minutes in an hour, a speed of 60 miles per hour would be 1 mile per minute. The equation is now:
d = 1(20) = 20 miles
