Question 249004: jenny leaves florida at 8:00 am. Her average speed results in 50 miles per hour. Jim will take the same road but sleeps in late and leaves at 9:00 am. The result of his average speed is 60 miles per hour. When and at how many miles will jim pass jenny.
I have a hard time with word problems. My classmate says make a table or chart but i dont know what info to use.

BECAUSE THE DISTANCES ARE THE SAME WE SET THESE EQUATION EQUAL & SOLVE FOR T.
50T=60(T-1)
50T=60T-60
50T-60T=-60
-10T=-60
T=-60/-10
T=6 HOURS AFTER JERRY LEAVES THEY WILL MEET.
PROOF:
50*6=60(6-1)
300=60*5
300=300
