Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A train traveling 80mph that has a 30min layover halfway on the same 156mile trip that a car going 55mph is on,which will reach their destination first?
-------------
Train DATA:
rate = 80 mph ; time = x-(1/2) hrs ; distance = 156 miles
-----------------------------------------
Car DATA:
rate = 55 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = 156 miles
----------------------------------------
Train time: 156/80 = 1.95 hrs
Total time for the train to get to destination: 1.95+0.5 = 2.45 hrs
------------------------------------------------
Car time: 156/55 = 2.84 hrs
--------------------------------------
The traiin will get there 1st
