walking 2mi x 40mi
running 2mi 2x 20mi
but I cannot make it come out right.

Let x = walking rate
2x= jogging rate

D=RT, so

Total time = Time walking + Time jogging = 1 hour



Reduce the fraction above:


Common denominator of x, so add numerators:


So, x = 3 mph walking speed.
2x = 6 mph jogging speed.

It checks since time walking = = 2/3 hours
Time jogging = = 1/3 hours
Total time = 2/3 + 1/3 = 1 hour
