At 7:30a.m., the Lozano's leave Florida heading to Georgia traveling at a constant rate of 50 mph. At the same time the Mitchell's leave Georgia for Florida driving on the same road traveling at a constant rate of 60 mph. How far apart are the two cars after 3 1/2 hours of driving?
------------------
FL to GA car:
rate = 50 mph: time = 7/2 hrs ; distance = rt = 50(7/2) = 175 miles
------------
GA to FL car:
rate = 60 mph ; time = 7/2 hrs ; distance = 60(7/2) = 210 miles
---------------
Distance = ? because you don't know how far were from each other
when they started.
