Question 220543: I need help solving the problem:
The Great Seto Bridge in Japan is about 7.6 mi long. How long would it take you to cross the bridge if you were walking at 3mi/hr?
This is what I have done:
I set up a chart:
Rate:4 Time:t Distance:7.6

So would it be 4t=7.6?
I have no idea what I am doing. Please help. Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Recall that the distance 'D' is related to the rate/speed 'r' and time 't' by the formula: (ie multiply the speed by the time to get the distance traveled).

Plug in (the given distance) and (the given speed)

Now the goal is to simply solve for 't':

Divide both sides by 3 to isolate 't'.

Divide 7.6 into 3 to get 2.533 (this is approximate).

Rearrange the equation.

So the solution is which means that it takes about 2.5 hours to walk 7.6 miles.

given:
mi/hr
mi

Divide both sides by

hrs
It would take 1.9 hrs to cross bridge
