If Rocky is biking 8 mph, Jade must be going 10 mph.
That means in one hour, Jade will have traveled 10 miles and Rocky 8 miles and so they will have covered 18 miles between them. This is half of the total distance so it must take 2 hours for them to cover the whole distance. Checking that, in 2 hrs Jade will have gone 20 miles and Rocky 16 mi. They would have covered the whole distance in 2 hours and Jade would have biked 20 miles.

Let Jade’s distance to the meeting point be J, then Rocky’s distance = 36 – J

D = ST, or

Jade’s time to get to meeting point = , while Rocky’s is: . Both times are equal, and therefore we have: .

8J = 10(36 – J) -------- Cross-multiplying

8J = 360 – 10J ------- 18J = 360

Therefore, Jade’s distance to meeting point, or J = , or miles
