Question 2190: a train traveled form its terminal to an ocean resort at 90/km/h and then returned at 72km/h. What is the rail distance between the train terminal and the ocean resort if the round trip travel time was 9 hours?
Answer by gsmani_iyer(201) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the distance between
terminal & Ocean resort = x Kms.
time taken from terminal
to ocean resort at 90 Kms/h = Hrs. (Because Speed * time = Distance)
time taken from ocean resort
to terminal at 72 Kms/h = Hrs.
so total hours taken for
round trip travel = + = 9 Hrs.
(taking out the LCM, we get)
= 9
= = 9
= = 9
so x = 9 * 40 = 360
so, the distance between the terminal
and the ocean resort = 360 Kms. Ans.
