Question 217516: If a person traveled at a rate of 32 mph to visit a nearby town. The person averaged 10 mph on the return trip. if the round trip took 6.3 hours, find the distance to the nearby town.
I have figured out that it is 48 miles away but can't figure out how to express this in an algebra formula, any recommendations?

Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT
32t=10(6.3-t)
32t=63-10t
32t+10t=63
42t=63
t=63/42
t=1.5 hours for the 32 mph. trip
6.3-1.5=4.8 hours for the return trip.
Proof:
32*1.5=10*4.8
48=48 miles to the nearby town.
