Answer by Fombitz(32388)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Rate*Time=Distance
Make sure your units are consistent.
Convert all lengths to feet.
1 mile=5280 feet
4.9 miles/hr=4.9(5280 ft)/hr=25872 ft/hr*(1 hr/3600 sec)=7.187 ft/sec
100 yd=300 feet
Time=Distance/Rate
t=300 ft/(7.187 ft/sec)=41.7 sec
You want the answer in minutes though.
t=41.7 sec(1 min/60 sec)=0.696 minutes

Emile wants to win the 100 yard dash at the track meet. If he runs 4.9 miles per hour, how many minutes will it take him to run the race?

100 yards = miles -----> 1,760 yards = 1 mile

D = ST, or T =
Since we're looking for time, in minutes, then we will 1st calculate the time in hours, as follows:
= 0.011595547 hours. Converted to minutes, 0.011595547 becomes 0.695732839, or approximately minutes.
