Question 208014: A certain aircraft can fly 960 miles with the wind in 4 hours and travel the same distance against the wind in 6 hours. What is the speed of the wind?
Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = speed of aircraft
w= speed of wind
Rate with the wind = x+w = 960/4 = 240
Rate against wind = x-w = 960/6 = 180
x+w=240
x-w=160
2x = 400
x=200
x+w=240
200 + w = 240
w=40 mph
