: A woman begins jogging at 3:00pm, running due north at a 6-minute-mile pace. Later, she reverses direction and runs due south at a 7 minute-mile pace. If she returns to her starting point at 3:45, find the total number of miles run.
I ahve tried using the formula time = dist/rate,letting x=distance. I plugged in 45=6x + 7x, but I got an irrational number (3.461...). Thanks in advance for any help!

first ___ the number is not irrational, it is 45/13 (the ratio of two whole numbers)
second ___ x is the distance one-way ___ the total distance is 90/13
