Question 190286: A pumper takes nine minutes to reach the scene of a fire located eighteen city blocks away. If one mile equals three city blocks, how fast is the truck travelling?
Answer by jonvaliente(64) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First, determine the distance (in miles) of 18 city blocks:
3 blocks=1 mile
18/3 = no of miles (18 blocks)
Speed= distance/time
distance= 18/3 miles
time = 9 minutes
There are 60 minutes in an hour:
2/3 * 60 = 40 miles per hour
