Question 190060: Before, solving the problem, I just want to give you the heads up. It's Application of Rational Equations. I can't find the specific title to relate with my story problems. My chapter in the book is Chapter Six Solving Rational Equations and Application of rational Equations. Hope it helps! (D=RxT)
*Rowing with the current of a river a rowing team can row 25 miles in the same amount of time as it takes to row 15 miles against the current. The rate of the rowing team in calm water is 20 mph. Find the rate of the current.
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RxT, so T=D/R ___ the times are the same (equal)
25 / (20 + c) = 15 / (20 - c)
"cross" multiplying ___ 500 - 25c = 300 + 15c
adding 25c - 300 ___ 200 = 40c
dividing by 40 ___ 5 = c
