On the ocean the passenger boat averages 18mph, while the freighter averages half that rate. Inside the canal the freighter's rate was 2/3 that of the passenger boat. How far from New York is Boston, via the canal and ocean? (Hint: Use a table for the canal to obtain information used in the second table for the ocean.)
Using the Rate, Time, Distance table in my book we came up with x=8 1/4 or x=33/4. When I enter 33/4 into the equation I get 11 over 33 over 4. I am not sure how to work a fraction like this. Please help. This question is from textbook LIFEPAC Math
