x-miles drove by Pete
y=1/2x+65 -miles drove by Tyson
then the sum of the miles they drove together write as :
x+1/2x+65=500 solve for x
3/2x=435
x=290 and y=210

Tyson drove miles. So Pete must have driven miles.

And we know that

And miles which is the distance Pete drove. 210 + 290 = 500 so the answer checks.
