Question 170345: Two cars leave an intersection. One car travels north; the other east. When the car traveling north had gone 15 mi, the distance between the cars was 5 mi more than the distance traveled by the car heading east. How far had the east bound car traveled?
Answer by Mathtut(3670) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
label the distance the car going east traveled x and so the distance between the cars would be labeled as x+5. since you have a right triange you can use the pathagorean theorem with one leg 15,the other leg x and the hypothenuse x+5
so write you equation and solve for x:
:
:
10x=200
:
distance the car east traveled
