You can put this solution on YOUR website! two missiles speed directly at each other. One is travelling 9000 mph, the other is travelling at 21000 mph. The missiles start 1317 miles apart. How far apart are they 1 minute before they collide?
-------------------------
How far apart they start it does not matter. It has no effect on the question asked.
--------------------
They approach each other at the sum of their speeds, so that's 9000 + 21000, or 30,000 mph. Divide by 60 (60 mins/hour): 30,000/60 = 500 miles/minute.
So they're 500 miles apart 1 minute before collision.
