First 6 miles DATA:
distance = 6 mi ; rate = 10 mph; time = d/r = 6/10 = 3/5 hrs

Last 3 miles DATA:
distance = 3 mi ; tate = 4 mph; time = d/r = 3/4 hrs

Total time:
(3/5) + (3/4) = 12/20 + 15/20 = 27/20 = 1 7/20 hrs.

Distance(d) equals Rate(r) times Time(t) or d=rt; r=d/t and t=d/r
Time required to travel the first 6 miles =6/10=3/5 hr
Time required for the remaining 3 miles=3/5 hr
Total time=3/5 hr +3/5 hr=6/5 hr=1hr 12min

6+3=9
