relationship between her speed and the current;

Let x = paddling speed
Let y = current speed
then
Speed up stream = (x-y)
Speed downstream = (x+y)

Write 2 distance equations: Dist = time * speed
:
1.5(x-y) = d
1(x+y) = d
:
Therefore we can write it:
1.5(x-y) = 1(x+y)
1.5x - 1.5y = x + y
1.5x - x = y + 1.5y
.5x = 2.5y
or
x = 5y We know the paddling speed is 5 times the current speed
