Question 146749: Two cars are leaving the same parking lot at the same time are 3.2 miles apart after traveling 2.5 hours. If they continue at the same rate and direction, how far apart will they be 2 hours later?

In order to solve this problem, all we need to know is the distance formula.
D = RT
The distance between the two cars is 3.2 and the time that it took for these cars to gain that distancse is 2.5.
3.2 = R(2.5)
R = 1.28
Now, to find how far apart the cars will be two hours later, we add two to the initial time and plug in our rate.
D = (1.28)(4.5)
This gives us a distance of 5.76
