Question 13595: HOW MANY HOURS DOES IT TAKE TO GET TO THE MOON IF YOU ARE DRIVING IN A CAR GOING 5 MPH?
230,000 to 240,000 miles from the earth to the moon. FYI: The Apollo space craft, ejected from Earth orbit at 25,000 miles per hour (escape velocity) took 3 days to reach the Moon.
I am a fourth grader and not very good in math. This is for extra credit. I think the equation would be D=RT, but not sure how to plug things in.
Thank you.

Answer by longjonsilver(2297) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
first... you can't drive to the moon in a car, so why bother with the question like that? lol They should just ask, how long to fly to the moon at 5mph.
Also, escape velocity is way beyond 5mph, so you could never "drive" at 5mph...so impossible anyway.
Thirdly, the actual trajectory of the motion is not a straight line, but a parabola, for which i doubt you have benn taught the necessary algebra to answer correctly. So again, you cannot do it at the moment.
Give those as your answers :-) and you may still get some credits for logical thought :-)
Good luck
Jon
