Question 124082: A train leaves Danville Junction and travels north at a speed of 75km/hr. Two hours later, an express train leaves on a parallel track and travels north at 125km/hr. How far from the station will they meet?
Answer by PBMathandscience(9)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance = speed x time.
Let T be the time for the express train. Then the time for the first train is T+2.
The distance covered by the first train is therefore
The distance covered by the express train is
Equating the distances:

Subtracting 75*T from both sides:

Substitute this value for T into the distance formula for the express train:

So they will meet 375 km from the train station. Check by substituting into the equation for the first train.

Solution checks.
