Question 1207182: The speedometer of Terry's small pickup truck is designed to be accurate with tires of radius 14 in. Find the number of rotations of a tire in 1hr if the truck is driven at 55mph.
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if the truck travels at 55 miles per hour for 1 hour, then the truck has traveled 55 miles.

55 miles * 5280 feet per mile * 12 inches per foot = 3484800 inches.

if the radius of the wheel is 14 inches, then the circumference of the wheel is 2 * pi * 14 inches.

3484800 / (2 * pi * 14) = 39615.93898 rotations of the tire.
