If it is not a circular track, then at given conditions you (as the more slow cyclist)
will NEVER catch up to your friend (who is faster cyclist and is 2 miles ahead you now.)

It is so obvious that I will not spend my and your time for proofs or explanations.

If, in opposite, the track is assumed to be circular, then its length must be given
in the post in order for the problem be solvable.

But, due to unknown reason, this data ABSENTS in the post, making the problem FATALLY DEFECTIVE.

If you read what you have written in your post, it should be obvious to you that something is wrong....

If you are behind your friend, and you are going slower than your friend, then it is clear that you will never catch up to him.
