Let "d" be the one way distance to her cottage.

Write the time equation in the form 

     -  =   of an hour   (or 48 minutes).


To find "d", multiply both sides by 600.  You will get

    10d - 6d = 480

       4d    = 480

        d    = 480/4 = 120 kilometers.


ANSWER.  The distance to Betty's cottage is 120 kilometers.
