.
In an automobile race, a driver was 240 miles from the finish line after 3 hours.
Another driver, who was in a later race, traveled at the same speed as the first driver.
After 2.5 hours the second driver was 300 miles from the finish. Find the speed of each driver.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the problem says in the description, BOTH drivers have the same speed.
Let x miles per hour be their common speed.
First  driver was 240 miles from the finish 3 hours after the start.
Second driver was 300 miles from the finish 2.5 hours after the start.
It means that first driver in 3 hours traveled 60 miles farther,
than the second driver traveled in 2.5 hours with the same speed.
Hence, the speed of the first driver was 60/0.5 = 120 miles per hour.
And since both drivers have THE SAME SPEED, we have this
ANSWER.  Each driver traveled at the speed of 120 miles per hour.
Solved and carefully explained.
