Write the total distance equation
0.5x + 0.5*(x+5) = 15 kilometers.
Simply and find x
0.5x + 0.5x + 2.5 = 15
x = 15 - 2.5
x = 12.5.
ANSWER. Greg's rate is 12.5 km/h; Ruel's rate is 12.5 + 5 = 17.5 km/h.
CHECK. 0.5*(12.5 + 17.5) = 0.5*30 = 15 kilometers, total distance. ! Correct !
