Answer by checkley71(8403) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
DISTANCE=RATE*TIME
GOING WE HAVE D=4(S+6) WHERE S=SPEED OF THE CANOEIST.
RETURNING WE HAVE D=10(S-6)
SETTING THESE 2 EQUATIONS EQUAL WE GET:
4(S+6)=10(S-6)
4S+24=10S-60
4X-10S=-60-24
-6S=-84
S=-84/-6
S=14 KMH IS THE CANOEIST SPEED.
PROOF
4(14+6)=10(14-6)
4*20=10*8
80=80
