A messenger, traveling 65 km/h, pursues a car which has a start of 2 hours, and
overtakes it in 3 hours.
Find the car’s speed.
:
When he overtakes the car the travel time of the 1st car will be 5 hrs and the pursuing car will be 3 hrs
let s = the speed of the car to be overtaken
When the car is overtaken, they will have traveled the same distance.
Write a dist equation dist = time * speed
5s = 3*65
5s = 195
s = 195/5
s = 39 km/hr

At the messenger's start, the car is 2c km ahead.
The difference in speed is 65 - c
---
3*(65-c) = 2c
195 - 3c = 2c
c = 39 km/hr
