Marty runs at 140 meters per minute. 10 minutes later, Marty catches up with Gary.
When Marty catches up Gary the third time, how many meters has Gary run?

When Marty catches up Gary for the first time in 10 minutes, Marty (the faster) covers the distance 140*10 = 1400 meters.



At this time, Gary covers 400 meters less distance, i.e. 1400 - 400 = 1000 meters.



From it, you can calculate the Gary' speed (rate) : it is   = 100 meters per minute,
   (but actually, you do not need it).



When Marty catches up Gary for the third time, Marty will cover 3 circumferences longer distance than Gary.



It is OBVIOUS that it will take 3 times 10 minutes, i.e. 30 minutes, and during this time Gary (the slower) will cover the distance 

which is 3 times as long as 1000 meters, i.e. 3*1000 = 3000 meters.    ANSWER
