Question 1161358: A car leaves a town at 50 kilometers per hour. How long will it take a second car, travelling at 95 kilometers per hour, to catch the first car if it leaves 1 hour later?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The second car starts 50 km behind
it is moving at 45 km/h faster than the other, so it will take 50/45 or 10/9 hours to catch the first car
or
the second catches the first in x hours
distance for the first car is 50(1+x) and for the second car 95x. Since they are together, the distance is the same.
50+50x=95x
45x=50
x-50/45=10/9.
