.

1 mile = 5280 feet.

Use the proportion

     = ,

where x is the number of pedal turns needed.

From the proportion, find  x =  = 316.8.    ANSWER

50 feet : 3 pedal turns
50/50 feet : 3/50 pedal turns .... divide both sides by 50
1 foot : 0.06 pedal turns
5280*1 foot : 5280*0.06 pedal turns ... multiply both sides by 5280 (because 5280 ft = 1 mi)
5280 feet : 316.8 pedal turns
1 mile : 316.8 pedal turns

You need to do 316.8 pedal turns to go one mile.

---------------------------
note:
316.8 = 316 + 0.8
316.8 = 316 + 8/10
316.8 = 316 + 4/5
316.8 = 316 & 4/5 ... mixed number
also,
316.8 = 316 + 4/5
316.8 = 316*(5/5) + 4/5
316.8 = 1580/5 + 4/5
316.8 = 1584/5 ... improper fraction
