Question 1144531: An airplane is 3349 m above sea level. At the same time, a submarine is directly under the plane at 1648 m below sea level. How far above the submarine is the plane?
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the airplane is 3349 meters above sea level.
the submarine is 1648 meters below sea level.
3349 + 1648 = 4997 meters.
that's how many meters the plane is above the submarine.

you can look at sea level as the 0 point on the number scale.
above sea level is to the right.
below sea level is to the left.
the difference between them is the distance between the submarine and sea level plus the distance between the plane and sea level.
